"I know that there is a connection between Tracy Lee Summers (listen to Tracy Lee Summers – My Favorite Color, moremars team 2008) and Colin Johnco though I can’t really tell which is the side project. To be sincere I would prefer the diffusion of the artist into various projects instead of the concept of a leading one and this is more of a stylistic choice.
Anyway, in DR (DR)ONE by Colin Johnco and Arnaud Bonnafoux there are six tracks. A droney atmosphere is all over the first two tracks (dr drone, 04.07.07 over) created by many layers of sounds that from time to time are hidden by intrusive static noise and a variety of analog equipment used in a manner that diverts their common use. The effect though is sweet, not aggressive at all, u feel more like being in a dream like state. It is difficult to tell what is the sound or where does it come from and the same happens with the personality of the contributors (DR (DR)ONE does not sound like a release by Colin Johnco and Arnaud Bonnafoux but the osmosis between the two is such that it sounds like the same person). The atmosphere changes after the third track (export, onde 25, drumming) when eclectic rhythmical elements are introduced that let us understand how eager the two artists are in moving between different styles plus possible references and influences as Autechre (incunabula era), Skinny Puppy, Brian Eno, anything by the French label LEEP. The albums final track is ‘bad bad clap’ that starts with some audience recording to evolve into a marvelous drum machine, physical drums solo. "
